Respectfully Gerald, horseshit.

Those anecdotes were BEFORE any widespread
gun ownership existed in this places.

The recent data suggest:

"The last best guess was about 350,000,000 Total. That would be 1 weapon for every man woman and child. The average gun enthusiast owns several firearms which includes pistols, shotguns, and rifles of all makes and models. It is often estimated that about 1 in 4 people own any firearms and on average firearms owners own 4 guns each."

I own five and I shoot all the time.

Gun legislation would NOT involve taking
people's guns away. The constitution precludes
a house-to house search of people's possessions.
And if that ever occurred, we'd really see how
many guns there were.

This is just bullshit propaganda by the gun lobby
and, to be candid, morons.

There are probably 100 good gun laws that could
be passed that would make people and the US
safer. Let's take one of the easy ones: a month
ago, a five year old kid shoot himself in the head
while visiting his grandparents house—media report
said there was a cop living at that address. ONE
SOLUTION of hundreds we could have would be
biometric locks on guns. I researched this last week.
There are currently about five patents for biometric
gun locks on Google. Police support this, as would
the military I am sure, if it where made reliable. I
would love to have my Glock lock up if an unauthorized
person tried to use it. THAT would have prevented the
kid from dying. Another idea would be to simply require
gun locks. A trigger lock (again, it could be biometric
so it would not slow someone down if there were an
intruder in his/her house) would also prevent such
accidents.

The black and white fallacy (bifurcation) that
says that we must have all or nothing, that having
guns laws means we lose our guns is bullshit. Really,
stop spreading this garbage and think it through.

I grew up with a mother who believed in UFOs and
read conspiracy books. I read all of the Illuminati
books before I was fifteen. I read dozens of UFO
books, books about ghosts, and near death experiences,
I'm hip to the distrust of the government. I have little
respect for most politicians. But that does not mean that
there is some grand conspiracy among the elites to take
our guns away. To the contrarily the unwillingness of
seemingly rational people in our government to make
laws to protect people and improve people lives (like
taxing the millionaires at a fair rate) is proof that we would
never lose our guns.

But as it stands, 4 in 6 democrats own guns and
6 in 10  republicans do. Everyone loves guns in the
US. But we CAN have laws too, just like we do with
alcohol, to protect people. People do not need guns to
kill people, as Iraq and Rwanda prove, but they need
the will. Limiting access to guns for crazy people,
making them safer from criminals etc. is NOT going to
be the end of our right to have guns.

A History of Gun Control

In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to
1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were
rounded up and exterminated.

In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5
million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and
exterminated.

Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a
total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend
themselves were rounded up and exterminated.

China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20
million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were
rounded up and exterminated.

Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981,
100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up
and exterminated.

Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000
Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and
exterminated.

Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one
million educated people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up
and exterminated.

Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in
the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million..

You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear
politicians disseminating this information.

Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and,
yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.

Take note my fellow Americans, before it's too late!

The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind
them of this history lesson.

With guns, we are 'citizens'. Without them, we are 'subjects'.

During WW II the Japanese decided not to invade America because
they knew most Americans were ARMED!

According to data from the FBI, about 5-10,000 people per year are killed in the U.S.
